Schuylkill River Catfishing Info

Many anglers love Schuylkill River Catfishing in the Greater Philadelphia Area. At Top Water Trips, we are offering At Night Guided Catfishing Trips from our Boat in the Chester/Montgomery County Areas. Below this section, we wanted to mention a few things we have noticed for the Schuylkill River that help us to get on Flathead Catfish on the Schuylkill River

What we suggest for Bait-

To keep it obvious & simple; Chicken Livers for Channel Catfish & Live Sunfish for the Flatheads. There are definitely plenty of other baits you can use but this is what we prefer… We like Live Sunfish between 4-7 inches in size. We find that Cut bait doesn’t work nearly as well as live bait for Flathead Catfish, especially the Big Flatheads. We also like to have a smaller action rod hanging off the back with any assortment of smelly, raw, high scent bait so we can get on some Channel Cat Action while we wait for the bigger Schuylkill River flatheads to find our live Sunfish.

So, depending on your setup, what you prefer, and what you’re looking for out of a night fishing trip with us or by yourself, take all of this info with that in mind and filter it through your own preferences.

Where-

Depending on the area you are in there are a variety of places you can Catfish on the Schuylkill River. If you are looking for Bank Fishing Opportunities check out the Lock 60 Recreation Area for Parking. The are many places along the Schuylkill River trail that can often provide an opportunity to fish. But,  look for deeper & slower sections of the river and avoid riffles and fast water. For Eastern Berks County areas there is a nice population of Channel Catfish & some Flatheads in a number of Areas along Rt 724 from Pottstown-Birdsboro-Exeter.

Finally, for the Reading, Pa area the best opportunity is going to be launching from Eplers Landing not far from Route 222 & Route 183. The closer you get to the City you can get the more likely you are to find Giant Flatheads. Of course, keep in mind, where the boat launches are & if the access permits for safe boating or bank fishing at night.

So, keep these base-level & intro suggestions in mind and if you are looking to book a trip give us a Call at 484-335-8883 and/or Email at Topwatertrips@gmail.com
